Today was dreaded day for me.

I mean, who REALLY enjoys dental surgery and bone grafting? No one I’m certain of it. And it most certainly doesn’t top the list of things for me to do on my bucket list before I die. No way.

I’m home now and I’m not really a very good patient as I can’t sit still for too long and convalesce. There’s always something to do……read up on recipes, create new cupcake ideas, health ideas for future posts, work on nutritional labels, branding for Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, pay bills and more bills, I can go on and on.

I thought though, why not show you where I was today….Dr. Stephen Phelan’s Dental Practice.

Dr. Stephen Phelan

I had to get bone grafting done for my front tooth that has had a crown on it since I was 8 years old (I’m saving the story of how I lost my tooth for my book!). Over the past 6 years, my crown was getting lower and lower and no other dentist could tell me why. They just kept filing it to keep it in line with my other front tooth.

It turns out that there was no bone left because of a hairline fracture in the root area. So essentially, in the gum in front of my tooth all the bone had dissolved over the past few years and the crown could have potentially come out at any given time as there was no more strength to it. YIKES! THIS was revealed with a simple “3D X-Ray”. (No dentist before had recommended I do this! They all had no idea what was going on and suggested ‘exploratory periodontal surgery’ – love that).

Dr. Phelan TEACHES dentists. He is that good. He is very well trained in cosmetic dentistry and just by being in his presence during a consultation, you know you’re in good hands with his detailed explanations, the latest technology and his cutting edge tools to get you your perfect smile. Believe me, I’m an expert in this topic now. Forty years and Eleven dentists later- not every dentist is created equal and I cannot recommend Dr. Stephan Phelan enough.

It’s almost over!!! Yes, still frozen and happy!
digital x-rays instantly appear (behind me) to watch the progress…
Two HUGE beautiful flat screen TVs are there for you in his ‘surgical suite’ (of course I watched the Food Network!), an ultra comfy dentist chair with extra THICK padding, amazingly friendly and caring assistants and just a lovely energy throughout the practice.
The drive home was very painful……:)

I just thought I’d share a day in the life of what I do and with the hopes that I can help someone make the right decision when faced with needing a really wonderful dentist that is thorough and very much a perfectionist! I still have to wait 6-8 months for the bone graft to take and finally get my implant and new tooth but I’m thrilled to do so knowing I made the best decision possible.
