I started to write this post 3 days ago. I wanted to write about being in the present moment and taking in every breath, every sound, every sight, and treasuring it dearly. Right now in this very moment is the gift, not what could happen tomorrow or the days gone past. I thought I had the words all figured out and then on New Year’s Eve, I saw a tweet that, Mike (Beard Guy) Taylor, from the band, Walk Off The Earth, had just died in his sleep. Never to say good bye to anyone ever again. That’s it. It’s done. Just like that, this human body checked out. Never for anyone to ever see him alive again. No more words, no more laughs, no more touches, no more hugs. Do you ever have moments that come up in your life and it sideswipes you to pay attention to what…

Empathy is difficult. “If you believed what he believes, you’d probably do precisely what he’s doing”. Think about that for a second. People act based on the way they perceive THEIR world. We react, we get angry, we cry, we are joyful, we praise, we are critical, we are judgmental, we shout, we rage, we are blessedly happy……Every single time, our reaction to anything that happens to us is manifested from our perception of what our reality is. “Understanding someone else’s story is hard, a job that’s never complete, but it’s worth the effort.” – Seth Godin Read this one hundred times. It’s short and you can sit quietly in it and feel your feelings about the world, yourself and the people that surround you when you re-read it. What can you do to shift the way you believe things to be? Can you simply give compassion and say, “Boy, I think…

The biggest reason people fail at creating and sticking to new habits is that they don’t keep doing it. (Well, that makes obvious sense doesn’t it?) For 2014, I think this is a year to really change things up and shake things up. We NEED to create some new soul-serving habits and discard all old habits don’t serve our greater good. For most, the hardest thing to do is to keep these New Year resolutions and goals and hopefully new habits that serve us well. It’s difficult for the majority of us to stick to a new regimen and develop new routines that allow us to improve our lives. I’ve got some ideas that might just help you create a new blueprint of YOU. One that incorporates some healthy, inspiring ideas into our daily lives and routines and will only IMPROVE what we get back from our life. Honestly, this…

Today, I’m going to share a really simple secret that can make your day instantly better. If you’re feeling down, it can make you happier, all day long. It’s something I’ve been trying myself, with great results. It’s three steps, and anyone can do them. This is a repetive procedure repeated over and over, all day long. It starts with a basic assumption: that we are all human beings capable of goodness, love, of pain, of broken hearts and passionate love. That we all have bad days, and good days and it’s the bad days especially when we need to reach out. It is based on my observation that we take other people for granted, and that we have come to judge others and become irritated with them for almost no good reason, and we expect everyone to make us happy or at least behave the way we want them…

Many of us go through our days awake, but following patterns we’ve developed over the years. We are going through the motions, doing things at home, online, at work without much forethought. Contrast this with the idea of an Intentional Life: everything you do is done with consciousness, fulfilling one of your core values (compassion, for example). Everything is done with a conscious intent. It’s true that many things we do have some kind of intent — I’m washing the dishes because I don’t want a messy house or bugs in my kitchen; I’m driving to work because I need to make a living; I’m driving my kids to school because they need to get an education and have a social network. But after repeating these actions every day, the intent kind of fades into the background so that we are barely aware of them. We’ve figured out the intent long ago,…

I am so blessed with my life. Every day I get to wake up and share my passion of health with people who are able to come into Kelly’s Bake Shoppe and for those of you that connect with my personal website and blog. For those of you who have had the opportunity to come into our two businesses, thank you for gracing us with your patronage and your support. My hope is that our infectious love for GOOD FOOD will spill out to the planet and into each and every one of your hearts and homes. We can all make a difference to someone else’s life and to “reach out and love” is in us inherently. Each one of us has that duty and obligation with every gift we have been individually given to share it. My enthusiasm and love for what I do every day (to help people…

The Universe always works in a dynamic exchange with your body, mind, and environment. In nature, giving and receiving different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe are what permit the continual bounty we enjoy and is what we call life. As Buddha shared, “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Just like the candle, when we share our happiness, it doesn’t mean we lose any of our own personal happiness. By sharing, I actually find my happiness and joy grows. ….As I look back on 2012 and reflect on my life, there’s a huge wave of a blur that goes through my mind at 150mph. Life has been crazy for me (and my family). Besides renovating and opening a new business called Kelly’s Bake Shoppe and restructuring and…
